Education

Our four classrooms are used primarily by our very young children and by children awaiting admission into Government schools. Our volunteers and teachers ensure that the children get a strong Educational Foundation before joining public schools. The classroom atmosphere also helps our children get re-habilitated following their traumatic time on the streets where every child has to fight to survive and where glue sniffing is the norm.

Of our 90 children attending public primary school, 14 Boys attained top 3 positions in their respective classes and 31 children stood in the top 20. With over 90 children in each class, SCANN is proud of their achievements.

Last year, 14 boys completed KCPE and 12 children scored over 250 points (pass mark), while one child scored 369 points, a brilliant achievement. All 14 boys now attend Secondary schools and continue to reside at SCANN.

John Ndolo, a SCANN child, completed O-levels and attained a B+ grade. He now attends Egerton University. WE CAN DO IT ! ! !

Computer Class

With computers being the in-thing, and an educational necessity, SCANN has developed a computer class with 9 second hand computers (received as donations at our last fund raiser). A computer teacher has been employed to ensure our children excel in their use.

Dining Room

The SCANN dinning room cum entertainment room cum TV room, which can sit 200 children is the central meeting place for the children and guests. This is also where the children have their annual Christmas parties and Santa comes with gifts!

Dormitory

The SCANN centre has three dormitories with a capacity of 200 children. Every dormitory is connected to toilets and showers and a House Father/ House Mother’s quarters. The House Father/Mother is responsible for each child in that dormitory and ensures the child does his homework and chores before going to bed. Each child is given a bed, bed sheets, blanket and a cupboard for his personal belongings.

Our Garden

SCANN has 3 acres of planting land. The children assist our gardner in planting. In their shamba they grow maize, beans, tomatoes, onions, sukumawiki, bananas etc. The crop is entirely consumed by the SCANN children.
