SCANN is a registered charitable organization founded primarily for the purpose of assisting and rehabilitating street children. The project was founded in 1998 by various reputable, recognized Charitable organizations and caring, concerned individuals.
Today SCANN provides shelter, food, clothing, education and healthcare to 140 former street children aged between 3½ years to 17 years old. All the children reside at e centre which has a capacity for 200 children.
Most of these children are admitted into SCANN in the middle of the night by the trustees, who find them sleeping on cold shop verandas, underneath kiosks and even in the gutters- shivering in the cold with nothing but rags to keep them warm!
SCANN presently sends 90 children to public Primary schools, 30 to Secondary schools and one child is now in University. 11 boys have successfully completed vocational training and have already been found employment. The remaining 19, mostly very young children, attend classes within the centre.
